Slab-on-grade construction is sensitive to subsoil conditions such as expansive clay due to changing moisture conditions. In extreme cases slabs are a poor choice and may require extensive repair. In 2006-2008, GES Tech Group was retained to investigate a series of similar slab-on-grade failures in a sub-division near Denver, CO. GES Tech Group participated in legal proceedings that eventually resulted in settlements and extensive repairs.
The repairs involved removal of the slabs and the installation of structural floors and included ventilation systems to mitigate radon gas accumulations. GES Tech Group was responsible for structural design, selection of contractors, construction supervision, and final approval of all repairs.
