Biowheel Drive Fail

In 2012, a waste water treatment plant in Idaho experienced a catastrophic drive failure of a large Biowheel Treatment System.  The failed drive ultimately rotated and jammed against the Biowheel (Fig 9).  This caused extensive damage prior to the over torque system initiating a lock out.  GES Tech Group was retained by the treatment system designer to analyze the root cause of the failure and to recommend solutions.  GES Tech Group was also retained to represent the system designer’s interests during negotiations with the owner and the owner’s installation contractor.
