DOOR OPENING TOO SMALL, FAIL

A waste water treatment plant was to be retrofitted with a large item of equipment at an interior location, and on the other side of an existing doorway.  After delivery of the equipment, it was discovered that the doorway was too narrow by approximately 6 to 8 inches.

In 2020, GES Tech Group was retained by the contractor to detail a solution for this unique problem.  It was necessary to widen the opening by removing one of two steel columns in the load bearing wall.

This included a detailed load transfer jacking procedure intended to prevent damage to CMU walls and twin tees resting on the existing header over the door.
