Light poles illuminating a large public parking lot in Kansas under wind conditions of IBC Exposure C (severe & open) experienced two catastrophic pole failures. Inspections later identified numerous other light poles in the lot with propagating fatigue cracks nearing a failure state. The parking lot was taken out of service and the remaining light poles taken down to prevent additional failures. In 2014, GES Tech Group was retained to determine the root cause of the failures and recommend solutions. GES Tech Group also represented the light pole installation subcontractor in subsequent legal proceedings.
