The 30 megawatt power station located at Ras al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates, Dubai, consists of ten 3 mw natural gas fueled IC gensets. Spring mounted vibration isolation was specified by the owner to limit transmission of vibration to nearby occupied spaces. In 2012, generator bearing failures occurred that resulted in an on-site investigation by GES Tech Group, including interviews of operating personnel, mounting and foundation inspections, a review of original foundation design documents, and vibration spectrum analysis. The source of the vibration issue was identified. Mitigation was recommended and implemented. Due to the location in a high seismic risk zone, and the customer required mounting on spring isolators, GES Tech Group was also asked to perform a seismic risk evaluation.
