Aerospace Shackle Fail

A high strength shackle intended for aerospace applications experienced a failure in 2010.  Since the device was made from a high strength 18% Maraging steel with Fy > 150 ksi, the client requested that GES Tech Group conduct an analytical investigation employing non-linear mechanical event simulation (MES).  Due to inherent clearances between the shackle and pin, the FEA model was required to consider contact and the resulting local deformation of the two elements.
