Hurricane Helene 2024 – Parking Slab Protection

Hurricane Helene in September of 2024 struct the Big Bend coast line as a Cat 4 event with major storm surge.  The parking area below a condo building near Carrabelle was in the path of Helene.

A parking slab protective riprap was designed by GES Tech Group and installed after Hurricane Michael in 2018 damaged the previous slab.  Hurricane Helene was the first time that protective measure was tested.

Impact on the riprap protective bank was slight, requiring only minimal maintenance.  The parking area slab was not affected and experienced no damage.
